This represents an English-dubbed, re-edited version of the three-hour original. If your household is filled with 'anime' purists, you might want to try and obtain the uncut version. Try to get a widescreen edition in any case - even the Disney VHS preserves the splendor in 'letterbox' format.
This English dub of Castle in the Sky is the later released version that removes almost all of the comedic effect possessed by the Dola Gang in the original DVD release. Background music that provides much of the energy and emotion in some scenes such as the destruction of Laputa has been left silent, leaving the viewer with much to be desired. The second of the Miyazaki anime films, this tells the story of Sheeta, an orphan and a descendant of the people who once lived in Laputa. She is taken by the secret service, her only connection with the past a stone inscribed with a strange emblem. Pirates attack the secret service's airship and in the commotion Sheeta falls. The the stone lights up and slows her descent and she floats down.
