Sonic 3d Blast Pc

Sega's most celebrated character returns to breathe some life into the fading Genesis market. Cleverly designed levels and good 3D-rendered graphics make Sonic 3D Blast the best Genesis game in ages.

As everybody's favorite hedgehog, you jump, spin dash, and now blast your way through seven huge levels to rescue Flickies from their robotic prisons. Distributed throughout the mazelike levels, Flickies are the keys to completing each act. But beware of Dr. Robotnik and the many traps and obstacles you encounter.

Sonic 3D Blast Dr. Robotnik discovers the seven Chaos Emeralds in Flicky Island. He soon learns that the Flickies residing on the secluded island, are natives of a different dimension, and can travel between worlds using large rings. Your mission is to destroy the robots Badniks to free the birds and get Flickies Robotnik from the island. This'll sound stupid, but is there any chance, any chance at all, that you could add Mode 1 Sega CD support to a future patch? Basically, this would allow those of us who own the Sonic 3D Blast PC version to enjoy the Director's Cut patch with the PC Soundtrack, which has several tunes that are LEAGUES better than the Genesis tracks (and several that are terrible, but that's beside the point). Sonic 3D Blast is a faithful emulation of the original Sega game. You will of course remember Sonic, the cool blue porcupine, who has to run around in a 3D world to collect rings, kill robots by jumping over their heads and, most important of all, gathering up the furry animals you meet during the game to free them.

Unfortunately, trying to find a way out of each level can be frustrating early on. Because you play with an angled-over- head view, timing jumps, spin dashes, and Blast Attacks to destroy enemies or to catch moving platforms requires practice. However, once you have the moves down, the game is easy to beat, which reduces its replay value.

Graphically superior to its predecessors, Sonic 3D Blast is a winner guaranteed to consume even the most experienced gamers...if only for a few days.

ProTip: Deposit Flickies in the Big Ring as soon as you find them.

Graphics

The game graphics are 4 s excellent. The large sprites and clean, crisp movements never glitch, even during the most intense action.

Blast

Fun Factor

The game has only a 4 5 decent replay value, but it does have some great graphics and big levels to run around in. Sonic fans will love it.

Sound

3d Sonic Games online, free

The effects are recycled from previous games. But the musical selection is eclectic, ranging from techno-pop to contemporary jazz.

Control

The controls are generally good once you learn to pinpoint your jumps. The new Blast Attack that enables Sonic to home in on enemies is awesome.

ProTips:

  • In Spring Gadget Zone, instead of using balloons to bypass deadly spikes, just continue jumping. Those spikes won't be able to nail you.
  • In any bonus round, stay on the ground as much as possible. If you jump, you might miss out on a bunch of rings.
  • Once you're finished with a bonus round, all rings regenerate throughout the rest of the level. Backtrack and load up on rings so you can easily pile up 1-ups, continues, and Chaos Emeralds.
  • Once Sonic gets the Gold Shield, don't pick up other shields. Only the Gold Shield gives Sonic the ability to do his new killer Blast Attack.
  • In any boss level, take the rings as you need them. If Dr. Robotnik hits you, the rings disperse and disappear fast
  • Look for cracks in walls and spin dash through them to get to secret areas with more rings, special items, and bonus rounds.

Debug Menu

At any point in-game, hold down M and press Escape. This will open a hidden menu where all sorts of things from changing the refresh rate to loading custom saved games.

'Motion Smoothing' can also be enabled which makes the game move significantly smoother.

Editing the menu's code in a resource hacker, or by using a patcher, will enable a second menu, allowing the user to change the amount of available lives (0-9), how many emeralds on hand, and skip Acts or Zones. An option is also available to 'Skip to last boss', which brings the player to Panic Puppet Zone Act 3, regardless of how many emeralds they have.

Final Fight

This image depicts the final boss and its level possibly used as part of an 'explosion' sequence after defeating it, much like its 16-bit counterpart. The boss also seems to be equipped with weapons from its third and fifth phases.

Tails & Knuckles

These may have been intended as loading screens before the Special Stage. As the Special Stages require little loading time, they go unused.

Island Map

This image is similar to the map displayed before each level, but without an image of Sonic's head showing the location of the current level and a dotted line showing the path taken to get there.

Unused Music

For some reason, the Saturn version's Invincibility and Speed Shoes themes don't play in the Windows version. Instead, the Invincibility power-up simply plays the ring chime, and the Speed Shoes plays no sound at all.
